3 social media tips for small businesses
Social media is a powerful tool for small business owners. It connects with customers in an intimate way, showcases your brand and your personality, and is a great platform to find feedback and make your customers feel appreciated.
A lot of small business owners we work with say they often find social media confusing and are unaware of the best social media marketing strategy to make the most out of the platforms. To help you navigate your way through your social media marketing best practice, here are three tips to save you time, effort and frustration!
Tip 1: Be consistent in your content creation
We cannot stress this tip enough – be consistent! In terms of timing and frequency, aim to update your social media pages on the same days each week. This will help you develop a pattern with your followers and increase the chances they will remember to check in on your page.
Keep your post content consistent too using your ideal audience avatar as your guide. Think about who you are appealing to and use data from surveys, polls, analytics, and past customers to create content that really resonates with these people.
Your brand needs to also be consistent, almost like a persona in itself. Use similar language, tone (formal, informal or somewhere in between) and don’t be afraid to show your own personality. Be honest and genuine with your thoughts and messages as you develop your brand persona, and ensure your content always stays in alignment with the goals of your business and what your audience wants to see from you.
Tip 2: Share interesting and informative content
In the age of information overload, you need to create content that will not only help your audience, but engage them as well. Well-written social media content is a must – give your audience something that gets them excited, gets them thinking and gets them off the couch! Well-written, informative social media content stops the scroll and encourages engagement. Comments, likes and shares are a great way to organically increase your reach and get more bang for your social media buck (and more customers or clients as a result!).
If you have multiple platforms, such as Facebook and Instagram, aim to vary your content to help keep your feeds interesting. We understand time can be a factor and at CLP Advertising we like to be realistic about business, so if you don’t have time to create different types of content for your different platforms, then just post the same content on different days for each.
Tip 3: Don’t rely on organic reach
Consistently posting on your social platforms is great, but to really get your business off the ground, we recommend adding in a couple of other strategies.
Firstly, paid ads can be a helpful addition to your content strategy, but ads must also be well put together, informative and interesting to be worth your time and money. Great ads are shareable and when done as part of a smart strategy, they can reap great rewards. Paid ads aren’t something we push too hard with clients, but they are worth discussing to really get your brand out there.
If you have a client or customer email list, this is a fantastic cross-promotion opportunity and an easy and effective way to increase your social media presence. Share content that links to your socials through your email list, as well as the latest news, blogs, specials or tips. It is also helpful to invite email subscribers to follow your social media channels at every chance you can.
